Fever
A surprisingly very good & obsession worthy series, that may require a couple reads to fully unravel the mystery behind this cool series. When Mac, an ordinary young woman, travels to Ireland to track down her sister's murderer, she is sucked into an extraordinary world filled with ancient secrets, vampires, assorted Fae nasties and other tough-to-kill beings. In the process, Mac learns of her own unusual talents and finds an unlikely mentor in the wealthy and mysterious Jericho Barrons.

Just Breathe
If you like whales...actually even if you don't especially like them, I would recommend this series. Okay, the first book in the series starts off more of a romance with some animal storyline, thrown in for good measure. An exciting ending and the promise for a continued/resolved romance subplot had me quickly signing up for book 2. That's when I knew this one was a keeper.

Pillars of Dawn
Fable Montgomery is the Muse of Story.  Fourteen years ago she gave up her home, her memories, and the man she loved, to prevent a new Dark Age. Yet when her beloved aunt is murdered, the fate of two worlds rests on Fable’s ability to recover the memories she worked so hard to destroy.

Fable returns to the land of myth and magic, a place called Aria. A world that has been waiting fourteen long years for her to fulfill the promises she’s forgotten she made.

In a surge of power she writes the Prophecy of Crows, a 240 page manuscript of the future arc. But before she can read it, all but thirteen of the pages are stolen. With only thirteen pages to guide her through the story, Fable must rediscover her power of inspiration, because the last page of prophecy foretells her death.

London Steampunk
I nice blend of genres, that's starting to become relatively popular as of late. An overall satisfying, well executed, and written book, that I wouldn't mind repeating in the future. Great and easy to follow worldbuilding, hot romance, and blistering action, that's devoid of super cheesy villains or dialogue. Yep, I hate it when a relatively good book gets ruined by a Scooby-Do ending. A couple of luls and a more than predictable romance, kept this one from becoming one of my favorites of the year. Still I good book that's well worth the read and recommendation.  Similar: Vampire Empire

MacKenzie Lewis
A heart stopping, non-stop action Fae fantasy adventure that will leave you breathless. This one is a real page-turner, that kept me glued throughout. The pace and editing are excellent, and the world building and plot seemed very fresh. I also loved that the author points out her own use of the stereotypical love triangle and damsel in distress plot devices, that we so often see.
****
Written in first Person POV, Mackenzie Lewis is a Houston college student who can track fae by reading the shadows they leave behind. For years she has been working for the fae King, tracking rebels who would claim the Realm. Her job isn't her only secret. She's in love with Kyol, the King's sword-master-but human and fae relationships are forbidden. When McKenzie is captured by Aren, the fierce rebel leader, she learns that not everything is as she thought. And McKenzie must decide who to trust and where she stands in the face of a cataclysmic civil war.

From one one of my favorite UF authors, this one doesn't disappoint. A very easy and hilarious read about a teenage delinquent Angel Crawford, who lives with her redneck father in the swamps of southern Louisiana. She's a high school dropout, addicted to drugs and alcohol, and has a police record a mile long. But when she's made into a zombie after a car crash, her addictions disappear, except for her all-consuming need to stay alive.

Scarabaeus
A futuristic fantasy plot that is definitely worth the notice, even for this regular UF reader. Self described as a Science Fiction Adventure, w/ a dash of romance. The books are best when read together, due to a book #1 cliffhanger & for generally keeping track of characters & plot.  Light sexual content; Maybe okay for 15+.

Charley Davidson
A very entertaining, engaging, and well written read. Charley is a PI that sees dead people, and it's her job to convince them to crossover. She becomes entangled in solving a murder when a couple of departed lawyers show up on her doorstep. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she's been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely.

                                  5-Fifth Grave Past Light (July 9, 2013)

The first book is a very well written and delightful fast read, that I couldn't bear to put down until the very end. Wonderful imagery, worldbuilding, character arc, and a fresh plot, I can not wait for the next book. The book is surprising very cohesive for a duel writing team. The pace and action were also right on the money.

A steampunk fantasy adventure romance trilogy, about two warring nations of humans and vampires.  Adele, heir to the empire, is captured by the enemy, when her airship skirts too close to enemy lines.  Greyfriar, a legendary vigilante vampire-hunter, who is more akin to heroes such as Zoro, sees her to safety.  Those that hate cliffhangers, should hold off on reading book #1 until the followup is released. The second book was good, but I didn't find it as good as the first.  The books are YA in regards to sexual content.  Warning: Mild violence, but no sexual content.

The Demon Lover: A NovelIncubus
An extremely smooth and very easy-well written read, that I would recommend to any UF or Fantasy lover. Written in first person POV, the beginning starts off interesting, but a little sluggish and not very original, with Callie McFay accepting a teaching position at a remote college in Fairwick, NY. Her nightly visits by a spectral or spirit from her childhood, returns when she first arrives at Fairwick for the job interview. After settling in, she quickly finds her dreams and nights occupied by the same erotic force. Not believing the visits to be real, she dismisses the occurrences as an overactive imagination and in response to her cooling long distant relationship.

It is always difficult to gauge how much to reveal about a book, but suffice it to say, this synopsis only summarizes the beginning. There are some pretty steamy scenes, but I would not classify this as a PNR.  Without giving too much away, this book has a little of everything, from witches to fairies, and of course demons.  There is also a story within the story, as Callie reads from original manuscripts, she finds squirreled away in her new home's attic, written by a favorite romance writer and the house's previous occupant. Warning: Sexual Content

2-Twice Dead
3-Third Blood (Undetermined)

The Restorer (The Graveyard Queen)The Graveyard Queen
I didn't expect much from this little known UF series. So when I finished book #1, The Restorer, and was anxious for more, I was entirely taken by surprise. The book is well written-edited-researched and very engaging, although I could see it being perceived as sometimes slow & predictable for some. For me, the story was a gripping on the edge of your seat thriller, that was both spooky and unnerving, to say the least.  I also learned more about cemeteries and superstitious cultures, than I ever thought possible.  There is some romance as well, with a promise for more, hopefully in the subsequent books. This series is definitely now on my watch list. The Prequel, The Abandoned, does not contain the same main characters.  And word of warning for those that hate unanswered questions left at the end, because there seems to be quite a few left open for the rest of the series to answer.
***
Amelia Gray is a cemetery restorer who sees ghosts. In order to protect herself from the parasitic nature of the dead, she always held fast to the rules passed down from my father. But now a haunted police detective has entered her world and everything is changing, including the rules that have always kept her safe.

Veneficas Americana
A fantasy set in the late 19th century in a world of magic, witches, and zombies. A small town witch finds herself center stage of a national manhunt and adventure with an annoying traveling warlock, after a fateful accident. Not my usual cup of tea. However this fantasy adventure was just different and interesting enough to hold my interest throughout, even with a few sluggish parts at the beginning.  Book #2 was even better than the first.  I wholeheartedly recommend this series.  Okay for 15+.

Phoenix Rising: A Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences Novel
A very good and lively Steampunk series, if you can get past a rather rough start. The first book isn't smoothest read throughout, but I'm glad I was able to stick it out until it grabbed me fully, b/c it just gets better and better as the books progress.  The first books starts off with a bit of a bang, as Field Agent - Eliza Braun breaks out the Ministry's Archivist - Wellington Books, from his Antarctica prison.  The two become reluctant partners, as they begin to unravel a cold case from the dens of the Ministry's Archives.  Warning: Strong Violence and Some Sexual Content. 18+

Valerie Dearborn
The first book in the series is a twist on the very overdone subject of Vampires. But don't let that deter you from checking out this very engaging and fast read. A little more UF than PNR, but there are still plenty of hot scenes to take in.  The 2nd book was even better than the first, and was entirely too hot for words.
                                *******
Valerie Dearborn wants a cotton candy life, but it’s more like a puffer fish: pointy, unusual, and—if not prepared exactly right—deadly. In London for graduate school, Val knows she's finally free. Her father and ex-almost-boyfriend are back in California and she's out of the Vampire hunting biz for good. Or is she?

She draws the attention of Lucas, a 1600 year old Vampire, and King to his kind. He’s also wicked hot. As golden as Lucifer, and just as tempting, he makes Val an offer she can't refuse— help him find out if the Others (Empaths, Fey and Werewolves) still exist or he'll stop protecting those she loves.

                                      *Spinoff pending

The first book, in this Southern Gothic - post-apocalyptic - mystery series, starts a bit rough. It's not exactly a smooth read, that kept me entirely focused until almost a quarter of the way through. But after it finally hits its stride, I became peeled till the end. The world-building, mystery, & character Arc was great, but I thought the Love-Quadrilateral was a bit much.  Still, this book definitely lays a good ground work for an interesting series, and will hopefully only get better as it progresses.

This one is about disease-carrying fairies and the humans that have fled to the protection of their iron gated communities. The hard-drinking, smart-mouthed, bicycle-riding, Annabelle Lee, is unique in that she is one of the few immune to the verminous creature's bite, and able to do the dirty work most humans can’t. Including helping law enforcement— and Cane Cooper, the bayou’s sexiest detective—collect evidence when a body is discovered outside the fairy-proof barricades of her Louisiana town. But Annabelle isn’t equipped to deal with the murder of a sixyear- old girl or a former lover-turned-FBI snob taking an interest in the case.

Rhiannon's Law
The series is about a smart-mouthed bartender that can see the twice dead.  The leader of  the NY Vampire region enlists her help when a number of their people start turning up dead, in the most gruesome and unimaginable ways.  This series gets really good more towards the end of the 1st book.  I thoroughly enjoyed the 2nd book, and can't wait for the third.  The books have a little of everything, from vamps to demons and time travel.

Chosen
This one starts off fast with Emma Thompson, a single mom, on the run with her 5yr old son. Powerful men are after them, and they won't stop until they are captured. For three years Emma has been on the run from these men, and she can only guess as to why. But it doesn't mater, because the most important thing in her life, is the one thing she is willing to die for. The book starts just as Emma and her son are making yet another quick dash before "The bad Men" can catch up to them. Emma will do anything to protect her son, even when it means accepting the help of a stranger. Don't miss this engaging and exciting cheap read.  Warning: Violence, Sexual Content, & Rape (However nothing is described in explicit detail).

Nightshade
Rowen's new sexy UF series doesn't disappoint. Just like her other popular vampire series (Immortality Bites), this book starts off pretty fast. However, that is where the similarity ends. This book's plot is and characters are also much grittier and the protagonist comes off much more likable. The middle is a bit lackluster, but the ending picks up and makes up for what the middle lacks. I encourage anyone who enjoys this this book to read the Short, Bleeding Heart, in the Anth-Primal. The short starts off exactly where this book ends, and I thought it better edited, very engaging, and essential to the storyline of this series.

Almost Human
A vamp series that has a lot going for itself.  Four books in and I'm a big fan. College student Felicity finds out vampires walk among them; some of which are quite cute.  One of the few PNR series that gets better and more intriguing with each book.

Jane Jameson
A witty story, following a librarian who accidentally becomes a vampire in her small hometown. I kept passing up this series, due to the covers, but I have to say this is one of the wittier UF PNR series I've read.  The 1st & 3rd book are the strongest IMO.  A lot of laugh-out loud moments.

Darkest London
A thoroughly engaging and satisfying book (Firelight), that is part paranormal romance & intrigue and part fairy tale. Being a big fan of contemporary fantasy, I didn't think this Victorian Paranormal would hook me, but with its rich & vivid descriptions, romantic build, and intriguing plot, I fell for it hook line and sinker. The author truly has a talent for building sexual tension to a boiling point. The relationship between the main couple is white hot, and are definitely now on my list of favorite literary couples.

Plagued since birth by a strange and powerful gift, she has spent her entire life struggling to control her exceptional abilities. The Dark Duet
Altogether too short, but incredibly and surprisingly very good. I'm not an Erotica fan by any stretch, but I did enjoy this book. Well written and captivating, I couldn't help but read this in just one sitting. I was oddly entranced by both main character's stories, and their shared pain, depravity, and strong will for survival. The author also somehow managed to create a redeemable and empathetic character that willing inflects pain & humiliation on others, just as others have inflicted on him.

"This isn't a romance. You're not a damsel in distress and I'm not the handsome prince come to save you."  No. He wasn't. In real life you had to save yourself.

Caleb is a man who spent half of his life in the pursuit of revenge. Revenge against what others have done to him, and what others did to his rescuer's family. In escaping the depravity of his early years, he slowly becomes the monster that he once hated.  In order to enact the final stages of his revenge, he sets out on snaring a unwilling victim to train as a submissive, in order sell her as a sex slave to the man he has long dreamt of destroying. The only issue is that his surprisingly strong-willed and complicated captive might be a bit more than his experienced hands can handle.

Warning: For Mature audiences only. This most definitely isn't for everyone. Lots of sexual charged scenes, but only one with the full act. There is also violence, murder, Sodomy, and rape flashbacks, but nothing as far as cruelty or complete forceable sex by the captor-Caleb.

                                          1-Captive in the Dark
                                          2-Seduced in the Dark-Final  Excerpts

More meaningful, than your run of the mill flesh eater book. The heart of the story is about a woman who has been to hell and back again. After waking with no memory of the last 2 months, Cas puts all her effort into recovering her 3 yr old daughter. Most of the book is focused on her reflections of her past, prior to the Siege, that landed them in this post-apocalyptic world. Through  her reflections and growth as a woman & as a mother, she finds strength and comes to terms with her life and her endless self-destructive self-loathing. Warning: this is not a YA book. Sexual Content/Violence

Well written and interesting books, that have a lot of promise for a continuing series. Anya spends her days as an arson investigator & psychic medium-Latern by night. This one has demons, ghosts, dragons, love, sex, police, and murder.

2-Sparks

This one isn't as silly as the covers would lead you to believe. A very well written & engaging series about a self-deprecating witch with the unique ability to reanimate the dead. A dangerously handsome warlock torn between being her boss and her would-be lover. Let the games begin.

The first book was, IMO, is a little too formulaic for my taste. But later, the books definitely graduate from the run of the mill romance experience to intriguing UF drama.

This the first book in a thrilling new UF series, that is both very engaging and sometimes hard to take.  A well written and edited book, which has an equally gripping beginning that does’t quite let up, until the very end. The content seemed quite fresh for an already overwritten genre. I also couldn't have predicted what ends up occurring, based off the first quarter of the book. Overall, a very good start to promising new UF series.

After the death of her parents, Ruby awakens from a lifetime of shadows and finds herself alone, thrust into a world of lies, deceit, betrayal and the supernatural.  As her quest for truth continues to come up short, she realizes that maybe some questions really are best left unanswered. When her true identity is finally unveiled, she is forced to choose between two of the mysterious men who continually seem to crop up in her life. She chooses poorly.  Warning: Violence, Abuse, Assault, Reference to Gang Rape, Rape (However nothing is described in detail), Some Mature Content.

Madeline Black
Great debut.  Maddy is an Agent of Death.  After a chain of events, starting with her best friend's murder, her life turns from ordinary broke loner to magical dark heiress. Monsters, Gargoyles, Angels, & Ungodly creatures, this series has it all.

1-Black Wings
2-Black Night
                                 3-Black Howl
                                 4-Black Lament
                                 5-Black City (Feb 26, 2013)

A little more fantasy than UF, this sexy and imaginative series will leave you wanting more.  One word of warning is that this author really knows how to disappoint readers when it comes to series finales. Still a good read, but I'm now a bit torn on whether this is good recommendation for that reason alone.

                                 2-Thorn Queen
                                 3-Iron Crowned
