New for Tuesday

Winter is finally heating up with some Hot New Releases. Of course, I'm still holding out for the Jan & Feb time frame, when the following UF biggies come out:

The Two Month Read

An intriguing question was recently placed to me, on whether a Series Favorite should remain so, after a string of misses or disappointments. After a long contemplation and discussion, my ultimate response was yes. I'm a creature of habit, and I like to remain committed to anything I vest my time in.  Yes, that means I sometimes I have trouble identifying when I should just let go.  Same goes for my difficulty to sell a loosing stock that I've held onto for more than a decade. But I digress.  

Of course, I have no problem ditching a book after expending only mere hours on it, or on a series that left me disappointed by the end of the 1st book.   My recent dilemma was whether to abandon a series favorite, Tairen Soul. I surprisingly took to this SF/Romantic Lord of the Rings Epic like drama right from the beginning. But after quarter of the way through the fourth book (Queen of Song & Souls), I definitely reached a road block.  If it's indication from its low rating, I wasn't alone.   After two months of reading this book off & on, I happily persevered through it and found it rather good by the end. That is, after moving past the slow and uninteresting parts that were in dire need of editing or just deleting.

So, my question is when should you decide enough-is-enough?  Should we stay committed or move on when we see our favorites declining?  

Not Another One

Okay, so it's not as bad as all that, I hope.  But you get the idea.  Blogs are popping up faster than the neighborhood Starbucks.  So why yet another one?  I set out with the goal to organize my favorite author links, lists, & Upcoming Releases, and ended up creating a blog.  I don't however claim to provide anything better or more comprehensible as say, Literary Escapism or All Things Urban Fantasy.   

But what I will do, is provide a forum where others can find info on UF new releases, and maybe discuss their thoughts along the way.  My reading tastes tend to lie somewhere between Dark UF/Horror & PNR.  So no, that does not include Jim Butcher's latest workers.  Nothing against old Jim, but I'm just not a huge fan of male authors, just as I have a preference towards listening to male singers.  Just a personal preference, like not liking okra; I think.  I am not a PNR fan either, but I have found a few reads that have peaked my interest.   

I'm not a writer or aspiring writer.  I'm just a lowly government worker that needs a little fantasy in her life.  So those that don't mind my reading preferences or my tendency to sometimes butcher the English Language,  you are welcome to stop-on-by anytime.

A new series by the author of the Haven Series. Not exactly a new author, but definitely not in the same league as Frost or Harrison.  The only book of the bunch that I've had a chance to read.  A+
